New Year of Agony …..First Bank Sacks Over 900 Workers Without prior Notice

On Friday 31st January 2020, workers who went about their daily duties suddenly around 2pm in the afternoon discovered they no longer could login to their respective system to discharge their duties. This information was reportedly revealed to Business Yield, a business news and consultin platform by the interviewed workers.
On further investigation after all attempt to login failed, they were informed that their services where no longer needed. Two categories of workers were affected by this decision. Workers who were categorized and sacked for reasons of incompetence and workers who had worked with the establishment for more than 30years irrespective of your rank.

These two categories summed up over 900 workers in total who were sacked without prior notice according to inside information by Business Yield Consult. However, the central working committee of the Union after deliberations with executives on february Ist, stated clearly that

-That the Union was duly carried along by the management in the rightsizing exercise carried out throughout the bank yesterday. Thus the National Secretariat subsequently executed an agreement in respect of the exercise.

  • The Union negotiated vigorously to ensure that our members were not laid off without adequate compensation, irrespective of whatever bucket they fall in the above categories.

With this, it is believed that a good number of the union member will be highly compensated.
